Lauren Wood

Los Angeles, California -- 2005

My friend Lauren Wood was one of the many high profile women in the LA music biz to gather at the reception following my performance in the GRAMMY Foundation concert "Mavericks of Music: Celebrating the Contributions of Trailblazing Women". Lauren is a wonderful singer/songwriter best known for her hit song "Fallen" from the Pretty Woman soundtrack.

During my years in LA, we floated in the same circles sharing many mutual friends. Most importantly (for us female entertainers), Lauren and I shared the same amazing hair stylist in Beverly Hills. While I would encourage Moon to do anything she likes to keep me trendy, Lauren has more specific ideas. She tends to spend hours with Moon, experimenting with various hairstyles and colors. I think she's less interested in being a trendsetter than she is in simply expressing her most eccentric creative urges.

Nearly everything about Lauren is unique and a bit quirky. She's fascinating, really. In addition to being a darn good singer/songwriter, she does voice-overs for cartoon characters, designs a line of greeting cards using photographs of her pets dressed up in costumes, and is an avid animal advocate. Her Hollywood Hills home is filled with bizarre retro 50's style trinkets and furniture. She's so boldly self expressed, one can't help but be inspired!
