The Kinsey Sicks

San Francisco, California -- 2008

Since 1993, America's Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet has served up a feast of music and comedy to audiences at performing arts centers, music venues and comedy festivals in every kind of town you can imagine, in over 40 states! Their award-winning a cappella singing, sharp satire and over-the-top drag have earned the Kinsey Sicks a diverse and devoted following.

Founding member, Irwin Keller ("Winnie"), is the brother of my good friend, bassist Lynn Keller  (talent runs in the family!), and this is how I came to follow this outrageous performing group. As a University of Chicago-trained lawyer and linguist and former director of the AIDS Legal Referral Panel of the San Francisco Bay Area, Irwin Keller authored Chicago's gay rights ordinance, passed into law in 1989. Indeed, it is the message in the madness of the Kinsey Sicks that appeals to me the most!

During a San Francisco Herbst Theater performance of The Kinsey Sicks' parody of The View, called Wake the F#@k Up America!, Irwin caught me by surprise. Without recognizing me at first, he ran out into the audience and grabbed me to be a guest in the show. Sitting on a sofa between four larger-than-life drag queens of comedy was a total trip!

Next time you get the chance, you gotta check out one of the Kinsey Sicks' shows. Take it from me... brace yourself for a helluva good time!
