Bobby Caldwell 2015

Bobby Caldwell

Oakland, California -- 2015

"What You Won't Do For Love" was Bobby Caldwell's big hit back in 1978 (https://youtu.be/AB2yzi04-xI) and it's one of my favorites. Hearing him play the song live at Yoshi's Oakland was so exciting! At 63, Bobby's voice was as pure and pitch-perfect as ever. My friends Roberto Vally (bass) and Tony Moore (drums) laid down a deep and punchy groove just like they did for me when they played in my LA band. So fun to hang out with these guys again. Big heartfelt hugs! Andrew Neu was also spectacular on sax with his high-energy solos.

Bobby Caldwell 1994

After the show, Bobby Caldwell and the guys got a kick out of seeing this vintage photo of the two of us from 1994. We first met when my band opened for him at an outdoor concert at Sunset Gardens in Saratoga CA. "Whoa, that's us?" Bobby told me, "You look better now!"

The world lost a beloved blue-eyed soul star in March of 2023 when Bobby passed away at home in his wife Mary's arms after struggling with health issues for six years.
