Rita Rudner

San Juan, Puerto Rico -- 1996

"I don't plan to grow old gracefully. I plan to have face-lifts until my ears meet."

Rita Rudner is one funny lady. Her sophisticated, high-society style of entertainment is rare in show business these days. Somehow she manages to captivate audiences without removing her clothes and to be hilarious without using profanity.

My initial encounter with her stand-up comedy routine was a serendipitous viewing of her first HBO special, "Rita Rudner's One Night Stand." I was just flipping channels on TV late one evening and found myself hooked by her witty humor and classy delivery. Little did I know that we would soon share the same stage.

A premier party band called The Zippers invited me to perform with them at a huge corporate event being held at the luxurious El Conquistador Resort in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Rita Rudner opened the show and warmed up the audience for the wild dance party that followed. Great fun for me to have the chance to meet her and share a few laughs before the band took the stage! Rita was just as gracious and quick-witted in person as one would expect.

"I was going to have cosmetic surgery until I noticed that the doctor's office was full of portraits by Picasso."

In the years since we met, Rita's career has exploded. She has recorded several other award-winning comedy specials, most notably "Rita Rudner: Born To Be Mild" and "Rita Rudner: Married Without Children." She has appeared on many of the major television talk shows and written three novels, "Tickled Pink," the best-selling "Naked Beneath my Clothes", and "Rita Rudner's Guide to Men." In 2001, she signed an exclusive agreement to perform at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and has sold close to one million tickets.
