illuminate your inner light

Happy Holy Days, friend!

Recently, I journeyed to my compassionate helping spirits with the sincere intention to be shown the perfect place for us to meet in-person to honor the Winter Solstice together. Much to my surprise, spirit gave me a clear vision of a church!

And this was not just any church. The Community United Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay CA was founded in 1867, and the small Historic Chapel is the oldest operating church in San Mateo County. So, the space and property is alive with benevolent spirits.

I was impressed with the church's Inclusion Statement on their website. "All persons are individuals of sacred worth. We recognize that there are differences among us, but believe that we can love alike even though we may not think alike." (excerpt) Sure enough, Pastor Lisa Warner-Carey walks the talk, and she embraced the idea of hosting our event.

After giving some thought to this choice for our sacred circle, I had to acknowledge again the profound wisdom of my spirit teacher. I was raised Methodist back in the midwest, so that provided my religious foundation before I began my Buddhism meditation practice in college.

About 13 years ago, I attended the showing of a documentary film that was held in the sanctuary of this same Community United Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay CA. The film was about the Shipibo people of the Amazon, a shamanic indigenous tribe. To support their culture, I bought my first hand-made shamanic rattle from them in this church's Social Hall. This was many years before I began seriously studying shamanism!

Spirit has guided me full circle.

Throughout the cultures of the world, the Winter Solstice is recognized as a powerful transition time, one that is acknowledged and celebrated in ways that are deeply rooted in shamanic origins. As we honor the Earth’s cycles and the wisdom of our ancient ancestors, our sacred ceremonies and celebrations have a profound transformative affect.

With the days growing gradually longer again, the return of the Sun and light into our lives offers us a fresh start. Gathering together in sacred circle to honor the Winter Solstice, we open our eyes and heart to our inner light. We realign with our own soul and reconnect with Spirit. This is a powerful time to seed our intentions for the coming year.

Join us as we meditate and journey, sing and celebrate in-person during the Winter Solstice Ceremony ~ Native Flute Meditation and Shamanic Journey at the Community United Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay CA on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Space is limited, so please purchase your tickets in advance.

A portion of all proceeds benefits the Lakota People’s Law Projectwhich assists indigenous communities.

Gather in sacred circle to honor the Winter Solstice, to embrace the stillness of the longest night and to welcome the returning light with singing, candlelight and celebration.

Let go of everyday concerns and rest in peaceful meditation to the soothing sounds of Native American Flute music played live.

Journey with the drum to the unseen realms to connect with compassionate guardian spirits for guidance and healing through direct revelation.

I am humbled and blessed to be of service to spirit and to the beautiful community of our sacred circle. Can't wait to see you!

Hugs and blessings,

Sonya
