Hello friend,
For most of my life, I have gone
to the doctor for annual check-ups and
health screenings. During adulthood, some
metrics have been more closely monitored,
including my cholesterol levels. Every
year, the message has been clear - my total
cholesterol needs to be lower than a
certain number or I may be prescribed a
pharmaceutical drug.
Then this week, I saw an article
with the headline, “Higher
Cholesterol Is Associated With Longer
Life.” A number of medical studies
were cited which conclude that participants
with the highest cholesterol levels were
found to have the lowest death rates
irrespective of where they live in the
world.
Another study showed that the
prevailing theory about the dangers of high
cholesterol is based on misleading
statistics. This altered data has been used
to justify the widespread prescribed use of
statins, which have been associated with
many adverse effects and risk
factors.
