Hi there my friend,
Do you remember a time before
social media when people often used to
get together in person just to
“visit?” Face to face
conversations were the preferred method
of communication back then. And we all
had an understanding that certain topics
were off limits in polite company i.e.
religion, politics, sex and finances.
Each person was entitled to their own
opinions which were best kept to
themselves if we were all to get
along.
Of course, this kept certain
bigotries and biases hidden, which was
not always a good thing. However, social
media has now
enabled everything to be aired in the public
domain. Unfortunately, this has caused
people to be more vulnerable to social
pressure and enabled public opinion to be
easily manipulated, often nefariously,
using these same tools. This has fueled
the biggest US-versus-THEM polarization
in history.
