Hot Sax and Van Gogh

Hello Music Lover!

"The artist cannot look to others to validate his efforts or his calling. If you don't believe me, ask Van Gogh, who produced masterpiece after masterpiece and never found a buyer in his whole life."

-- Steven Pressfield, "the WAR of ART: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles"

Don't we all wish to be acknowledged, if not financially rewarded, for the work we do? For 26 years, I have been lucky enough to make my living in the music business, though I must confess, it has been a rough road. Certainly, at times I have thought of quitting, but music wouldn't let me go.

Once, I was even hired by the LAPD to become a police officer. While in training at the Los Angeles Police Academy, I got a call to go on tour to Japan with the famous funk band, The Brothers Johnson. My choice to follow the musical opportunity instead of the steady paycheck highlights the fact that I have much more invested in music than the need to use my skills to make a living.

What keeps me going as a musical artist in this crazy business, especially during these tough economic times? Let me tell you what is driving me forward this year. Perhaps it will inspire you, too!

All this emailing, texting, twittering, blogging, facebooking... seems we never get to talk anymore. So, please allow me to actually speak to you. Here is a short segment of an interview that I did with Michael John Ahern for MJ Radio, in which I talk about what is inspiring me right now.

P.S. "What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?" -- Vincent Van Gogh
Are you thinking you'd like to attempt to get off this list?
To be removed, muster your courage and read this aloud:
I have no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh.
Get it? Oh never mind. Just click the darn link below.
