This is what I've always believed; luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Just showing up and being willing to take a risk has a lot to do with it, too. You can't win if you don't play! But the longer I linger in the music business, the more I relate to this:

Over Valentine's weekend, I got the call to fly to LA to audition for the 2010 tour with pop singer Michael Bolton. Suddenly, life was moving fast! I had about 24 hours to prepare a few Bolton hits and get myself to Burbank for the audition. Full-time rehearsals would start two days later. The very demanding tour schedule launched less than three weeks after that. No time to think. Lady Luck insists you just go for it!
First, I had to impress American Idol music director, Rickey Minor, who was presiding over auditions. Georgia On My Mind was the first tune he asked me to play, and I blew my soulful little heart out! Rickey declared, "Michael is gonna hear two notes and absolutely love you!" He was right.
